February is Black History Month. It is a time where I intentionally remember the struggle of my foremothers and forefathers what they went through enduring slavery, sharecropping, farming, building business, homesteading, raising children, entering into marriage and most importantly, how they survived, lived and died leaning on the strength of God believing in His love, blessings and salvation through Jesus Christ.
They recieved strength from the old Black spirituals (before gospel music came on the scene) and from stories of how freedom was reached through the underground railroad, freedom rides, freedom marches, from the messages of many people who were inspired by God to speak freedom (the release from not only the oppressive jim crow laws but also the mental bondage of internalized oppression) and of course through the truth which is always found in the Word of God for those who have mature ears to understand God’s message of love for one another without regard to the color of skin or socio-economic background.
**Praise God for His LOVE!**
